Why Should I Floss?

Posted .

Whether you believe it or not, flossing is vital for your oral health, but do you ever wonder why? If so, our Kimberly W. Fee DMD team is more than happy to tell you why!

Flossing can help your oral health in many ways and there are multiple reasons why you should floss your smile at least one a day. Four of those reasons are:

Reason No. 1: Plaque acts quickly

Plaque can begin to solidify on your teeth within hours of eating. So, if you skip flossing for one or two days, the plaque will harden and increase your chances of having tooth decay.

Reason No. 2: Your gums will stop bleeding

If you floss on a regular basis, your gums will remain healthy and strong. This means that you won’t have bloody and sensitive gums while you floss. If you remove bacteria from the gumline, your body won’t send blood cells to the area to fight the infection.

Reason No. 3: The rest of your body will be healthier

Gum disease is a dangerous dental issue that develops when the plaque on your smile irritates and infects the gums. This happens when you refuse to floss. Research has shown that gum disease is linked to a number of health issues, like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. So, if you floss regularly, there is a chance your entire body will be healthier.

Reason No. 4: Your teeth will stay strong

Plaque is a cavity-causing substance. This means that if you don’t remove it by flossing, there is a high chance you could suffer from tooth decay. So, make sure to floss at least once a day so you can save yourself from the pain of going under the drill.

Now that you know why flossing is so important, please avoid skipping your flossing technique. For more information and details about flossing in Prescott, Arizona, please call our office today at 928-778-7410. Your dentist, Dr. Kimberly Fee, and our dental team will be more than happy to help you!
